Roger Stone defends WikiLeaks, calls for CIA head to resign over attacks
Longtime Trump ally Roger Stone on Friday defended WikiLeaks calling for the CIA head to resign for attacking the anti-secrecy site’s legitimacy.
In an interview with Newsmax Stone blasted CIA Director Mike Pompeo for calling WikiLeaks a “a non-state hostile intelligence service.”
“There is no evidence to that whatsoever. What that tells me is that the bureaucrats … in the CIA are spinning a BS narrative. And that Mr. Pompeo is so dumb that he is buying it,” Stone said.
{mosads}Pompeo on Thursday ripped WikiLeaks, saying the website is “often abetted by state actors” such as Russia.
“It is time to call out WikiLeaks for what it really is: a non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia,” Pompeo said.
“In all honesty … I think he should resign,” Stone told Newsmax of Pompeo’s comments.
“I really think he should resign. This really raises questions about his qualifications and his ability to do the job.”
Stone maintained that there is “no evidence” to prove Pompeo’s claims about WikiLeaks or to suggest that the website’s founder, Julian Assange, works for the Russian government.
Stone said in March that he has a “perfectly legal back channel” to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Stone in October appeared to have foreknowledge that WikiLeaks would be releasing the hacked emails of Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta, cryptically tweeting “Wednesday@HillaryClinton is done. #Wikileaks” days before the first release.
