Giuliani: Trump Has ‘No Intention of Pardoning Himself’ But He ‘Probably’ Has the Power to Do It

Rudy Giuliani today weighed in on the question of whether the President can pardon himself.
President Trump‘s lawyer is back on TV, this time telling George Stephanopoulos in an interview airing on ABC’s This Week today that while Trump has “no intention of pardoning himself,” he “probably” has the power to do so.
“Doesn’t say he can’t,” Giuliani added with a laugh, calling it a “really interesting constitutional argument.”
He did add, per ABC, that the “political ramifications of that would be tough.”
Last night Giuliani spoke to ABC News and laid out a very clear legal threat:
“If Mueller tries to subpoena us, we’re going to court,” Giuliani told ABC News.
This comes on the news of Trump’s legal team from January sending a letter to the special counsel arguing that the President cannot obstruct justice.
President Trump’s lawyers have for months quietly waged a campaign to keep the special counsel from trying to force him to answer questions in the investigation into whether he obstructed justice, asserting that he cannot be compelled to testify and arguing in a confidential letter that he could not possibly have committed obstruction because he has unfettered authority over all federal investigations.
Just last month Giuliani was saying the President would not necessarily have to comply with a subpoena from Mueller, saying, “We can assert the same privilege that other presidents have.”
