Judge orders State Department to release more Benghazi emails

A federal judge has ordered the State Department to release another batch of emails from Hillary Clinton’s private server related to the 2012 terror attack on the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi, a government watchdog said Friday.

Washington, DC, Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered the department to give Judicial Watch previously redacted material in two September 2012 Clinton emails about phone calls from President Obama to Egyptian and Libyan leaders immediately after the attack.

Both emails had the subject line “Quick Summary of POTUS Calls to Presidents of Libya and Egypt.”

Jackson reviewed the documents and rejected the government’s contention that the records had been properly withheld under the Freedom of Information Act.

Judicial Watch had filed suit seeking those and other emails after being denied the emails by State.

The group’s president, Tom Fitton, has repeatedly accused the government of a cover-up on behalf of Clinton and Obama.

“Does President Trump know his State and Justice Departments are still trying to provide cover for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama?” Fitton asked in a statement.

“An extraordinary court ruling that could result in key answers about the Benghazi outrage is being opposed by the Trump administration. This may well be an example of the ‘deep state’ trying to get away with a cover-up — if so then the Trump administration must put a stop to it.”

Four Americans, including US Ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed in the attack, which Clinton and the Obama administration initially claimed was a spontaneous reaction to an anti-Muslim video.

Later reports revealed that the Sept. 11 attack was a coordinated terrorist operation targeting the American facility and its occupants.
