Trump Tweets He’s Proud to Have ‘Led the Charge Against the Assault’ on ‘Merry Christmas’
President Trump took to Twitter on Christmas Eve to once again bizarrely take credit for people being “proud” to say “Merry Christmas” again.
People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again. I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 25, 2017
The President has made this strange claim in multiple recent appearances, despite the fact that President Obama said that precise phrase every year of his presidency. Maybe the concern is that President Obama polluted the two words “Merry Christmas” with extraneous additional qualifiers since in 2013 and 2016 he added the word “everybody” at the end and in 2012 prefaced it with “Michele and I want to wish you a. . .”
Twitter was quick to react:
this is not enough u must pardon everyone who has been imprisoned for saying it https://t.co/9UEqEfqolo

Me, the president: I will fight against the scourge of political correctness
Also me: I will defend you against the assault of hearing words you don't want to hear https://t.co/Fe3gM81PnZ

Question to the American people: Were you ever not proud to say #MerryChristmas? https://t.co/j5GtOx2jPP

To the people who celebrate: Merry Christmas. To those who don't: Happy Holidays. Wow, that was hard. Such oppression. #WarOnChristmas https://t.co/MAHuHLPbbm
