Congresswoman Jackie Speier, one of the lawmakers who spoke out about the problem of sexual harassment within Congress last week, addressed the new conversation on the left recently about Bill Clinton.
The #MeToo movement and focus on gross and predatory behavior from men on both sides of the aisle has opened the door to people revisiting the allegations against the former president.
Juanita Broaddrick has alleged Clinton raped her, and just last week Chelsea Handler acknowledged her story and said, “I believe you.”
So between that and a Democratic senator coming out and saying Clinton should have resigned, CBS’ John Dickerson asked Speier this morning about for her thoughts on the matter.
They discussed President Trump first, and Speier said she believes Trump would not have been elected if he was running now, in the middle of this “huge cultural shift.”
As for Clinton, Dickerson asked, “What do you think about that in order to be clear about what the new standard is and use, you know, elements from the past that are well known?”
Speier responded thusly:
“Well, first of all, let’s remember that he did face impeachment. It wasn’t as if it was just tossed to the side. He faced impeachment. I think that the victims who came forward were not treated as they should have been. They should have been believed because, as I have pointed out, most people who come forward are telling the truth.”
